This is a quiet space which allows children to focus on their learning with a teacher or independently.
The classroom
This is our choosing area, tuff trays are filled each day with activities and toys which support children's fine and gross motor skills, imagination and social interaction skills.
ASC Provision
Welcome to our ASC Provision known as Orchard Class!
Who we are
The ASC provision is led by the Local Authority and we are a specialist 6 place provision for pupils who have a diagnosis of ASC.
Our teaching team consists of Miss Hobbins, the lead teacher in the provision, who is supported by Mrs Kimble, Mrs Bowden, Mrs Johnson and Miss Ellis.
We have a large classroom space which allows pupils to develop their:
- social interaction and communication skills
- fine and gross motor skills
- cognition and learning skills
What we offer
The ASC Provision (Orchard Class) offers pupils an opportunity to learn through structured play, planned social situations as well as developing their life skills. We provide a safe and quiet environment which promotes a love for learning and allows pupil to explore, embrace and celebrate their ASC. We pride ourselves on promoting independence and ensure this can be seen throughout our day to day routines.
Mainstream and curriculum
Pupils attend their mainstream classroom as often as appropriate and this is personalised for each child. When needed, pre-teaching and focused work is completed and adapted in Orchard Class to support the pupils learning. We know that all pupils are unique and learn in different ways, at different rates and we ensure we support pupils according to their needs by adapting the curriculum and their day where necessary.

Zones of Regulation are part of our daily routine and are used to support pupils with identifying and understanding their emotions. We have a ‘working board’ that is accessible throughout the day to allow the pupils to express how they are feeling. Small input lessons are given to teach pupils what the emotions are, what they look like and also to support them to address the feelings they may currently have, for example, if they are feeling in the blue zone (sad, tired, poorly/well) they can take a break in a calm space.
Well-being
Well-being and mindfulness is at the core of everything we do, pupils have opportunities to complete mindfulness colouring, take part in yoga and meditation sessions, and have access to a calm and quiet den space. We aim for a quiet and tranquil classroom environment with calming music, lights off and sensory toys are available at all times.

How we start our day
Every pupil in Orchard Class has the opportunity to start their day with a carefully created sensory circuit. This is made up of 3 areas ‘Alerting, Organising and Calming’. We believe starting the day calm and collected supports pupils to be the best they can be. Pupils also have daily schedules to help anticipate and understand their day.
How we end our Day
We end each day with bubbles and stickers where pupils are encouraged to think about one thing they have done during the day that makes them feel proud that links in with our core values. Our core values in Orchard Class are: Happiness, Kindness, Patience, Determination, Independence and Courage.
