The Primary PE and Sport Premium Grant

The Primary PE and Sport Premium is a government initiative introduced in 2013 to provide additional funding to primary schools in England. The core purpose of this grant is to make "additional and sustainable improvements" to the quality of physical education (PE) and sport that schools offer. It is a vital resource that helps schools ensure that all pupils develop the knowledge, skills, and motivation necessary to lead healthy, active lives. The funding is "ring-fenced," meaning it can only be spent on specific PE and sport-related provision, and schools are held accountable for how they use it to increase pupil participation and progress.

How We Use the Sports Premium Funding

This grant provides us with a fantastic opportunity to enhance our PE provision beyond what is covered by our school's core budget. We strategically allocate the funding to create a lasting legacy of physical activity and healthy lifestyles for our students. This includes:

• Upskilling Staff: Investing in high-quality professional development for our teachers and staff to build their confidence and expertise in teaching a wide range of sports and physical activities.

• Broadening Opportunities: Introducing new and exciting sports and activities to our curriculum and extra-curricular clubs, ensuring all pupils have a chance to find an activity they enjoy.

• Increasing Participation: Running and expanding sports clubs, providing targeted support to engage less active pupils, and participating in more inter-school competitions and events.

• Improving Resources: Purchasing new, high-quality equipment and resources to improve the quality of lessons and provide a wider variety of activities during lunchtimes and breaks.

• Promoting Healthy Lifestyles: Raising the profile of PE and sport across the entire school as a tool for improving physical and mental well-being, including promoting active play.

• Targeted Support: Funding additional 'top-up' swimming sessions for pupils who do not meet the national curriculum's swimming and water safety requirements.

By carefully planning our use of the Sports Premium, we aim to ensure that every child leaves our school with a positive relationship with physical activity and a foundation for a healthy and active future.
