Science

At Ramsey Manor Lower School we believe that Science develops children’s understanding of the world in which they live. We aim to ensure that all pupils develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. We aim to develop understanding of nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them. We encourage children to ask questions and develop a curiosity about their surroundings. We aim to equip children with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.

We use a variety of teaching and learning styles in our science lessons. Opportunities will be provided to develop skills and gain understanding of scientific concepts through first-hand experience in an inclusive, nurturing and inspiring environment. Children get the opportunity to explore Science within our Forest Area and pond area: they work together as a year group, within classes and in groups to develop their skills of co-operation.

Aims

The national curriculum for science aims to ensure that all pupils:
